Social Work and Student Resources
Students Social Workers & Care Workers
About Indibooks
I am an independent, registered social worker and a member of the British Association of Social Workers. My area of expertise is foster care and looked after children. I created INDIBOOKS because I thought it would be exactly the type of resource I would have welcomed as a student, when money was tight, and as a practising social worker with a need for specialist information. I hope you will find it a useful resource whatever field of social care you practice in. Feedback about this site will always be welcome and I will attempt to answer any questions you may have. You can e-mail indibooks@bfree.demon.co.uk use the on-site Feedback form (in blue bar above), or visit the Indibooks Blog at: http://indibooks-news.blogspot.com/
The views represented in the following links and via the Links and Link Exchange to the left, are not necessarily endorsed by Indibooks, but are provided for your information.

Your local library as well as your institution’s library may stock the books you are looking for and you can reserve them. Otherwise, I hope you find this site a useful source of cheap, used books. - HINT when using older editions of books: much of the information remains the same through different editions and you may be able to check that a quote is in a new edition in your reference library or by using a friend's newer edition, then you can reference the new edition in your work.
We will not buy and sell student essays or dissertations. If you need help with these, speak to your tutor, look at former students dissertations in the library, swap draft essays with fellow students for ideas or comparison, or visit the Learning Support Centre at your place of study. You could also take a look at 'Integrating Theory and Practice in Social Work Education' Watson et al.
The Barefoot Social Worker site describes the aims of radical social work and produces a range of articles, including the following:

Care Matters: Children in Care Deserve a Better Service
Illusion and Disillusion
Radical Ideas in Action: An Appreciation of David Brandon
Why Social Workers Oppose the Child Database
Social Exclusion: A Social Worker's View
So You Want to be a Social Worker?
What Future for Local Authority Social Work?
Radical Mental Health Social Work
Poverty, Class and Language
Poverty is the Big Issue
The Crisis in Social Work: The Radical Solution
The Myth of Family Support in Child Protection
Social Workers and Powerless Clients

Indibooks has got together with Information Plus to provide this range of interactive CD Roms. Social learning software can be used by teachers, social workers, psychologists, careers advisors, youth justice workers, foster carers, health promotion advisors, day centre staff and (of course) parents, carers and advocates. Specific issues include life story work, person centred planning, health issues, offending behaviour and decision making skills and many more. Each CD can be used for many different children making it a very cost-effective and engaging resource.
Did you know that you can include books and articles you have read, as part of your Post Registration Training and Learning requirement (PRTL)? I have included a few links (see 'Links and Link Exchange' to your left), to organisations who provide support and information to the profession and for ongoing training and learning.
The website of the Mental Health Foundation outlines the charity’s work in research, policy, service development and service user involvement. The site offers information and publications to download on research, good practice in services and on mental health problems and key issues.
It provides a daily mental health news service and directories of organisations, websites and events. Website visitors can use forums and bulletin boards, join a mailing list and find out how to support the organisation. See the link to the site by clicking on the Link Exchange and Links text to your left.
